Great Ectenia

Originally Composed in 2024

Not long after composing my Cherubic Hymn in 2024, I wrote this Ectenia for the beginning of Liturgy (or Vespers/Matins). A couple goals I had were to have a scalar pattern in the bass and a V7 subs6 chord (a seventh chord built on the fifth scale degree with a sixth above this scale degree added in and voiced above the seventh of the chord).

This composition has been approved for Liturgical use by a board member of the ROC’s Synodal Liturgical Music Commission.

All 8 voices on these tracks are recordings of me that I processed & mixed together. The recording & post-production were done in 2024, and some slight adjustments were done in 2026.
